A group of four Phoenix High School students who won first place over M.I.T. in a national robotics competition will be portrayed on the big screen.
“Spare Parts” will be the name of the upcoming American film directed by Sean McNamara and produced by David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Leslie Kolins Small, George Lopez, and Ben Odell.
The film will tell the true story of a group of high school students who compete in an underwater robotics competition, first reported in a Wired Magazine story.
The team had only $800 and used car parts but won the competition over several highly funded university teams.
All four American students were undocumented immigrants from Mexico.
The film will be released in theaters nationwide in 2015.
