Latino Institute Back-to-School Fair Returns to Metrocenter

The City of Phoenix Latino Institute is sponsoring the 13th annual “Back to School and Health Fair hosted by Metrocenter,” Saturday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Metrocenter Mall, 9617 N. Metro Parkway West (event participants should use the south “RED” entrance south of Macy’s).Thanks to numerous sponsors, visitors to the Back-to-School and Health Fair can get health screenings, dental and visual check-ups and hair cuts and much more.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health will be offering select shots for uninsured or underinsured individuals including HPV vaccine, The Maricopa County Department of Public Health will be offering select shots for uninsured or underinsured individuals including HPV vaccine, Meningococcal vaccine and Tdap for adolescents. The first 1,000 children accompanied by a parent or/guardian also will receive free backpacks with school supplies.

People wanting to donate money to purchase backpacks and supplies can make a donation via the Phoenix Parks Foundation.

Each $9 donation will cover the purchase of one backpack filled with basic school supplies. Residents can make donations online on the Parks Foundation’s website at phxparksfoundation.org. Participants also will be able to gather useful information from more than 60 organizations on after-school programs, health, nutrition, education, school registration, finance, voting/registration, vital records, and water safety. 

Many door prizes are awarded during the entire event and attendees who participate in the ending plenary session and workshops will have a chance to win bicycles, TV’s and home computers.
