College Connect Offers L.I.F.T. Workshop Series for Highschoolers

TEMPE, Ariz. – High school students and their parents are encouraged to attend free College Connect workshops from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 16, Sept. 20, Nov. 1 and Jan. 31 at the Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Rd.

“College Connect aims to provide students and their families with the resources and tools necessary to navigate the college process,” said Councilmember Robin Arredondo-Savage. “Members of the community-based partnership are committed to ensuring our youth are properly prepared for the future.”  

The workshops will provide guidance on many topics including college preparation, careers and college majors, funding options for college including scholarship searches and financial aid, essay writing, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form completion and more.

Students attending each workshop will be entered in a drawing to win a $250 scholarship. Five scholarships will be awarded by the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation at the completion of the College Connect workshop series in January 2015.

The City of Tempe has partnered with Tempe Union High School DistrictTempe Elementary School DistrictASU , Grand Canyon UniversityMesa Community CollegeRio Salado College and the University of Advancing Technology to create College Connect. The community-based program has been specifically designed to assist young people in fulfilling their dreams of a post-secondary education.
