AZHCC Awards Scholarships to 13 Students

The Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund will award its annual scholarships to 13 Arizona college and university students during the Telemundo Phoenix Hispanic Business Salute 2013 Luncheon.

 “Education is the foundation of a strong community, and we’re proud to be able to assist so many worthy students as they prepare to make their mark on the business community,” said Gonzalo A. de la Melena, Jr., president and CEO of the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

 The scholarship recipients will be present during the Hispanic Business Salute 2013 Luncheon on August 15 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. The event is hosted by Telemundo Phoenix and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation.

 This year’s AZHCC Scholarship recipients include: Iustin [sic] Rodrigo McCarthy-Contreras, University of Arizona; Jazmin Lopez, Arizona State University; Maria Venegas, Grand Canyon University; Yasmin Tapia, Arizona State University; Esther Duarte, Arizona State University; Stephanie Navarrete, Arizona State University; Esteban Corral, Arizona State University; Miguel Angel López González, Arizona State University; Gilberto Lopez, Arizona State University; Edna Osuna, University of Arizona; Luis Rodriguez, Arizona State University; Yvonne Faustinos, University of Phoenix; and Nico Gasca, University of Phoenix. Telemundo Phoenix also will present a scholarship to Gabriel Bailon, University of Arizona.

 The Arizona Hispanic Chamber awards five annual $5,000 awards annually to incoming juniors enrolled as business majors at NCA accredited schools in Arizona. Students receive the grants for two years. To help develop their professional skills, students are paired with a mentor and offered opportunities to participate in internships with Chamber business members. In addition, two mid-career business professionals each year are selected to receive full-tuition grants, valued at upwards of $50,000, to attend the University of Phoenix.

 The goal of the AZHCC scholarship program is to support and guide the next generation of business owners, managers and leaders for a better Arizona.  The Telemundo Phoenix Hispanic Business Salute Luncheon’s keynote speaker is Anna Escobedo Cabral, former United States Treasurer (2004-2009). This year’s Hispanic Business Salute awards will be presented to Salon Embellish, Quik Tek Assembly and D’Image Beauty College.

 Event sponsors and scholarship contributors include: Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation, Telemundo Phoenix, Hensley Beverage Company, Arizona Community Foundation, Maricopa Community Colleges, Nationwide Vision, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, University of Phoenix, Cox Communications, SCF Arizona, Budweiser and Circle K.
