ASU Latino Alumni Chapter Launches 30th Anniversary Year with $10,000 Donation from the Gila River Wellsprings Project
WHAT: Los Diablos – a non-profit organization committed to academic scholarship and
community service – is launching its 30th Anniversary year with a special cocktail
reception at the new Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino. During the event, the Gila River
Indian Community Wellspring Project will be presenting the ASU Latino Alumni
Group with a $10,000 check that will result in the creation of the 30th Anniversary
Founders Scholarship. The chapter was founded in 1984 by a group of ASU
alumni that include the Hon. Ed Pastor; Verma Pastor; Rosie Lopez; Daniel R.
Ortega; Aaron Kizer; and Barbara Ortega.

WHY: As of May 2013, over 30,000 Hispanics have received degrees from Arizona State University. Los Diablos – the official Latino Chapter of the ASU Alumni Association – is leveraging its 30th year to re-engage ASU alumni. Hispanic alum are encouraging to become Los Diablos Chapter members. Memberships start as low as $50 per year.
WHO: Los Diablos has been raising funds since 1984 to provide financial assistance
and support to Arizona’s best and brightest talent who attend ASU.
Approximately 2,000 scholarships have been awarded to date, with a value of
over $3 million. The Gila River Indian Community Wellspring Project was created to provide resources to those organizations and communities that work in the areas of education, social services, economic and business development.
