The World Mourns the Death of Mexican Superstar Juan Gabriel
Juan Gabriel, an icon in the Latin music world, passed away Sunday morning at the age of 66. Today, the world mourns his loss and remembers his legacy.
“El Divo de Juarez” died in Santa Monica after a massive heart attack. The singer was notorious for keeping his personal life private, but those close to him said he was lately struggling with his health. He was hospitalized two years ago after performing in Las Vegas. He was treated for pneumonia.
Juan Gabriel was scheduled to perform in the Valley with his “Mexico es Todo Tour 2016” on October 23rd at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
Soon after the news of his death, some of the biggest names in music took to social media to express their condolences. Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto called Gabriel one of the “great musical icons of our country.”
In 2009, the Latin Grammys announced the singer had sold over 100 million albums in his career, becoming Mexico’s bestselling artist of all time.
