Axé Capoeira brings Brazilian Festival to the Valley

Grupo Axé Capoeira Arizona invites the public to an exciting event that will bring people from all over the world to the Valley for four days this month.

On Nov. 8-11, Grupo Axé Capoeira will host its11th Annual Capoeira Batizado and Afro-Brazilian Dance Event. People travel from Brazil, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and the United States to attend this cultural and community event; which include a series of invaluable workshops in capoeira, dance, and music.

This event concludes with a high-energy public performance that will showcase live music by Mestre Barrão and his Grupo Axé Capoeira.

Prepare to be blown away by original Afro-Brazilian dances and death defying capoeira by experienced instructors and students at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10at the Phoenix College Bulpitt Auditorium, 1202 W. Thomas Road in Phoenix. 

 About Grupo Axé Capoeira Arizona

Axé Capoeira came to Arizona in 2000, when founder Jay “Camara” Spain moved back to the United States after 15 years of training with Mestre Barrão in Vancouver B.C., Canada.

In 2003, Axé Capoeira Arizona opened the first Capoeira Academy and Dance Cultural Center in the Valley. Classes are offered to kids, teens and adults. Axé Capoeira also offers classes at Arizona State University and numerous Community Colleges.

Grupo Axé Capoeira has recorded seven CD volumes of capoeira music and one album together with Mestre Burguês, which continues to be tremendously popular throughout Brazil.
