Rosemary Ybarra-Hernandez: AGUILA Youth Leadership Founder
The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) is proud to honor Rosemary Ybarra-Hernandez of Phoenix as its Hermana de la Semana representing the Executive Leadership Program (ELP) Class of 2010! Ms. Ybarra-Hernandez is the CEO and Founder of AGUILA Youth Leadership Institute, a college prep program for Latino youth.
Aguila Youth Leadership Institute was a dream of Rosemary Ybarra-Hernandez for more than 20 years that became a reality in 2004. The concept developed from her education and many experiences working with youth. She strongly felt that Latinos were in great need of assistance in the college planning process. Aguila Youth Leadership Institute is a unique program that promotes cultural heritage, academic success, civic engagement, leadership, positive self-esteem and health relationships.
Mrs. Ybarra-Hernandez, or more commonly called by the Aguila students as “Mrs. H.”, has been a long time consultant on education as well as workforce and job-training issues. She has developed components specifically for the young Latina women in the Aguila program.
Through her life, “Mrs. H” has been recognized for her personal, as well as her academic, accomplishments. As a champion for those in need, Rosemary has been recognized for her achievements in the design and delivery of award-winning programs in government, education and non-profit organizations, particularly those which serve youth. She has received local, national and international recognition for her work. Ms. Ybarra-Hernandez is continually enhancing the potential of those around her, as NHLI did for her just two years ago.
