Young Soccer Star Wins Scion Scholarship
By Ruben Hernandez
Victor A. Cogco-Hernandez is an 11th grader at Mountain Pointe High School that exemplifies a Toyota Scion Soccer Star, and that’s why he won a scholarship to soccer camp this summer.
Victor emerged as a winner during a recent competition in which the public was invited to nominate a Scion Soccer Star who’s athletic, has entrepreneurial abilities and are making a difference in their lives and in their communities.
“My mom screamed when she found out I won,” he says in an interview with ArizonaLatinos. His dad was proud, he adds. He mentions that he has two younger brothers, ages 11 and 6, and that he encourages them to excel in sports and school.
Victor says he is dedicated to helping his neighborhood while being a leader at his school and on the soccer field. He wants to attend a university and become a cardiologist. If he shows the same determination in achieving these dreams as he has shown in becoming a top-rated goalie, he’s sure to reach his high goals.
This fine young man is a talented goal keeper who is trying to be the best he can. His parents both work hard, but so seeing their example Victor gives his all every single day, on and off the field.
“I’ll do whatever it takes,” Victor explains confidently.
He has won many academic and soccer awards, and truly is a shining example of what a Scion Soccer Star stands for – achieving future goals that enrich his family’s life and his community.
Scion’s parent company is Toyota. The Scion brand has partnered with the Hispanic community to support individuals to achieve their visions. It is a car company that actively supports and collaborates with people who are driven to follow their own passions in life.
Victor says winning the scholarship made his parents “very happy.”
“I want to thank everybody (at Scion) for making this scholarship possible,” Victor says. “I know it’s a good company that is helping people.”
