Elizabeth Taylor wedding dressElizabeth Taylor’s diamond collection was famous, but the Oscar winner also had quite the pile of wedding gowns.

In fact, the eight-time bride’s first dress is now expected to fetch up to $75,500 at a Christie’s auction in London on June 26.

Founded in 1766 by James Christie, Christie’s conducted the greatest auctions of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, and today remains a popular showcase for the unique and the beautiful such as Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding gown. Christie’s offers over 450 sales annually in over 80 categories, including all areas of fine and decorative arts, jewelry, photographs, collectibles, wine, and more. Prices range from $200 to over $80 million!

The one-of-a-kind gown was originally worn by an 18-year-old Taylor at her 1950 wedding to first husband Conrad Hilton. Created by legendary costume designer Helen Rose (who designed Grace Kelly’s iconic wedding gown), the satin dress featured bugle beads, tiny seed pearls and a 15-yard train. The intricate gown also had a built in corset which accented the star’s tiny 20 inch waist on her big day.

The matching veil, which topped Taylor’s head 63 years ago, was made of sparkling silk illusion that was attached to a pearl-covered Juliet cap.

Although the marriage only lasted eight months, it seems the gown is destined to live on in fashion history.
