Amir’s La Voûte: Classic Style, Pop Art Flair at Latino Fashion Live
Walk into Amir’s La Voûte prepared to be transported to a different era. Not an era gone by but an era all its own. Amir Saebi’s unique take on design and style is not constrained by time, place or a particular trend; instead its possibilities are endless.
Amir, an emerging local designer who is taking the Phoenix fashion scene by storm, is one of the local designers whose styling will be featured at Latino Fashion Live 2013 on April 20th. I recently had the chance to chat with Amir in his downtown Phoenix location, housed within the completely chic Vintage by Misty boutique at 818 N. Central Ave. That chat revealed a designer whose emerging brand combines classic styling with a pop art edge that is completely unique, completely on point, and oh so exciting.
Dapper style in the jeans
You could say Amir’s love of the fashion scene is in his genes. Generations of Saebi men served in key posts in his home country of Iran with style and grace. He explains, “Looking good and presentable was all about representing the family with class and sophistication.”
Upon immigrating to the United States, that consideration for presenting a sophisticated look continued as the family found success in education and business. That sense of respect spills into not only Amir’s designs but into how he lives his life. For Amir, his foray into the fashion industry began with his own individual sense of style.
“I’ve always loved color and art and used to take my denim jeans, cut them up, paint something new on them and then put them back together in a cool new way.”
While this unique individual undoubtedly took some of his classmates aback at first, they were soon all clamoring for some Amir styled jeans themselves. Amir’s passion for pop art and creativity has led him to this point of having his first successful design house but he’s not stopping here.
“I will be forever grateful to Misty (Guerriero) for supporting what we are doing here, she’s absolutely wonderful and a fantastic mentor, but I have large aspirations. What I want to create is a brand and an image for others to share. A sense of style to incorporate into everyday life.”
From Clark Gable to Tupac , style is about personality
Amir sees style as an expression of an individual’s self. “Personality defines style. Not everyone is going to love the same style as I do, which is why I have to listen to my clients and find what works for them while adding a bit of creativity to it.”
When Amir is styling someone, he envisions a blank canvas on which he can paint a look that represents the whole person. “I look at the client’s music tastes, who his favorite actor is, everything about who he is, and then I can style a look that is an expression of the individual.”
The looks he’s created for Latino Fashion Live 2013 runway are sure to be a hit with our Latino community. In his own words, “I am excited to do every runway show I can, so people know that something like this exists in Phoenix; we have a vibrant fashion scene. I am fiercely competitive by nature and bring everything to every show, my goal is to blow the crowd away with my showmanship.”
Well, I for one can’t wait to see Amir Saebi pull out all the stops.
