Mexican Artist Gilda Garza has Entered the Art World by Storm

By Francisco Romero

Jetset Magazine has called her a rising star; Playboy Magazine featured her art in a cover page and dozens of renowned art collectors and celebrities have acquired her creations.

Born in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico and raised in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, Gilda Garza has inspired thousands, not only by her art, but by her charity giving through her paintings.

“One of the biggest satisfactions I have obtained, with my work, was when I was able to help La Casa del Migrante in Tijuana, a community based non profit organization that assists migrant families”.

The young artist was invited to exhibit her artwork at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, when she realized that through her art she could help those in need.

“I woke up one day and I told myself that I needed to use my gift of panting to help others,” she said.  “In the exhibit, at Caesars Palace, I featured 15 Mexican personalities and the boxer Saul el Canelo Alvarez was one of them, I told him about my intentions and he signed his painting and help me sell it, I was able to raise funds and present a check to La Casa del Migrante”.

Now-a-days here charity efforts expand to a wide variety of non-profit organizations in the United States and Mexico.

“I believe we can make this world a better one by helping as much as we can,” Gilda added.

With a degree in accounting and finance, Gilda painted as a hobby, a love she obtained from her mother and grandmother’s passion. Little did she know, it would become her livelihood.

“It all started at a friend-gathering event,” said Gilda.  “I was introduced by some friends to a Mexico City hotel owner, who happens to love art, he looked at my paintings and liked what he saw, he told me that my art should be seen outside my house”.

“He offered his hotel for my first exhibit, I painted my friends and family; that first exhibit in Mexico City was a success, I sold everything, I loved it”.

Now the world has gotten to love her art as she has traveled around the globe showcasing Mexican vibrant colors in all of her pieces.

“Every painting has a meaning,” Gilda tells us.  “Whenever I paint a person, first I want to get to know them, I want to feel their sense of being, that way I can decide what colors to use that will go along with their personalities”.

Her journey so far has been very successful, but is only the beginning.

One of her biggest accomplishments and challenges so far has her excited, as she was invited to exhibit her artwork at the Vatican in September.

She was one of only five artists around the world to be chosen.

“When I received the invitation to visit with the Pope, I could not believe it.  I cried and cried and thanked God for the blessing.  I am looking forward to that exhibit and will make the best out of it, I will be proud to represent my people, to represent my country”.

Gilda Garza, remember  her name, because once you witness her artwork you will not be able to forget it, it’s that amazing!
