“La Dama De Hierro” Marisela in Concert Friday, May 18
Rigo Entertainment presents the return of the legendary and exquisite Spanish-language singer Marisela at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18th at the historic Celebrity Theatre. Save $10 when you purchase tickets before May 13th!
At the age of 15, Marisela was groomed for pop stardom by award-winning vocalist Marco Antonio Solis (former boyfriend aka “El Buki”). The Mexican-American vocalist has stood the test of time and is etched into the memory of many Latin music lovers.
Referred to as “La Dama de Hierro,” Marisela is The Iron Lady, a name taken from the title of one of her most famous songs “Tu Dama de Hierro.” Despite her past run-ins with the law due to substance abuse, Marisela continues to persevere and is beloved by fans worldwide. Marisela’s long-lived career has spanned more than three decades of hit records. Allmusic.com reports she has recorded 17 albums, but her iTunes discography says otherwise with over 30 albums to purchase. In 2010, her greatest hits album 20 Exitos Inmortales won two Latin Billboard awards. She is one of the few Latin performers to have sold over 15 million records. Among some of her most famous songs are “Mi Problema,” “Enamorada y Herida,” “Sin Él,” “Completamente Tuya,” “Y Voy A Ser Feliz” the aforementioned “Tu Dama de Hierro,” and her cover of Barbara George’s “Ya No,” which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Latin Songs chart in 1990. “Necesito un Amor Muy Inteligente,” released in 2014, is her latest single.
She’s also been called the “Latin Madonna,” a comparison to the Material Girl for both her amazing pop success as well as her staying power. Marisela’s sexy outfits and platinum blond hair contributed as much to her fame as did her signature girlish vocal style. She defined the fashion and sound of ’80s Spanish-language love ballads, and is revered by many vocalists, including the late Jenni Rivera, who turned into a gushing fan when she shared the stage with Marisela to cover “A Escondidas” in their native Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre.
Born Marisela Esqueda in Los Angeles to immigrant parents, her road to success included appearances on television shows such as Villa Alegre and Siempre en Domingo. Her followers represent a diverse audience of all ages, and she will always remain a favorite in the hearts of her fans.
