She posted the same photo Gomez shared on IG the week before—of Gomez and Raisa in their hospital beds, hooked up to oxygen machines smiling as they held hands. She called the photo, “one of the most heartbreaking images that will live with me forever.” On the IG caption, Teefy also wrote: “As a mother, I was helpless, scared and all I could do was pray for the both of them.” For Gomez’s mom, Raisa’s selfless act helped her graduate from friend status to full-fledged family member. “I also gained another daughter… Thank you to everyone who was there for Sel, Francia and our families.”
Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 and has been vocal about the disease and recently, her life-saving kidney transplant, all of which has helped bring awareness and much-need funds to the Lupus Research Alliance. The organization’s president and CEO Kenneth Farber told E! News that the “Bad Liar” singer donated a portion of tickets sales from her last concert tour to help the alliance. To date, she’s raised almost $500K for the Lupus Research Alliance.
