Many Stars Taking a Stand Against the Removal of DACA

Demi Lovato is the latest celebrity who has pledged to help those affected by the deemed discriminatory action. According to Billboard, Lovato has reached out to nonprofit, Voto Latino, to figure out how she can help those affected by President Trump’s latest rescindment. The Latin singer’s ex-boyfriend of six years, Wilmer Valderrama, is no stranger to this organization and has worked closely with the charity in the past to help improve Latinx lives. In an interview with the Associated Press Wednesday Demi said, “I work with Voto Latino sometimes and I contacted Wilmer (Valderrama), whose part of the organization. I contacted him and said, ‘What can I do to help?’ So we’re going to try to figure something out.”
The brunette beauty also made a statement that many others can relate to; “all I can do is post on Twitter and text my senators on the Resistbot and raise the awareness as much as I can. But I feel kind of helpless.” Helplessness has been a common emotion these past couple weeks with many people not knowing what their future will look like due to the end of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).
Demi has also been an avid supporter of Hurricane Harvey relief programs. The tragedy struck Texas from August 25-30 creating intense flooding that destroyed homes, cars, shut of power and killed at least 70 people. Although the the Dallas native’s family is safe, she understands that many have been deeply affected by the natural disaster and has started a fundraiser to encourage people to donate to the Houston Food Bank.

Other stars have also spoke out agaisnt DACA and in efforts to raise aid for Hurricane Harvey victims, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cher, Barack Obama, Gina Rodriguez, Nick Jonas, Alex Rodriguez and Kim Kardashian-West.
