HollywoodReporter.com ran a piece called,”The J.Lo Effect: $15 Million Becoming the New Standard As Reality Salaries Soar.” The article points out how American Idol producers unintentionally set off a gold rush last year when they agreed to pay Jennifer Lopez $12 million to replace judge Simon Cowell for the show’s 10th season.

Since J.Lo scored that big payday, other A-list stars have demanded big-time paydays, including fellow Latina Christina Aguilera ($10 million for The Voice) and Howard Stern ($15 million to join the new season of America’s Got Talent). But J.Lo, who is reportedly making a whopping $20 million for her second season with Idol, was the one who started the trend.

Not that we’re surprised! Check out 9 other things J.Lo did…before anyone else!

Don’t Miss Jennifer Lopez LIVE on HSN!

1. JLo Firsts: Most Beautiful

First Latina To Be Named Most Beautiful

None of the women who were named Most Beautiful by People Magazine from 1990-2010 (including Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Anniston, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, and Jodi Foster), were Latina. On April 13th, 2011, People finally gave the cover of their Most Beautiful issue to a Latina: Jennifer Lopez! Not only was J.Lo the first Latina to be named People’s Most Beautiful, but she was also the first to admit that it takes work to stay looking so fabulous. “The thing is, it’s part of my job,” said Lopez. “I don’t want anybody thinking it’s easy. It does take time and it’s hard work. HDTV wide-screen is nobody’s friend!”

2. JLo Firsts: In Living Color

First To Be “Fly”

We all know J.Lo is fly — but the gorgeous Puerto Rican superstar officially became a fly girl in 1991 when she joined the cast of the FOX sketch comedy series In Living Color as a dancer. Rosie Perez was already working as a choreographer on the show, but it was Lopez who was the show’s first Latina fly girl.

3. JLo Firsts: Glow

First Celeb to ‘Glow’

Jennifer Lopez may not have been the first celebrity to ever release a fragrance, but she was the first to make it a must for Hollywood starlets. After the monster success of her first fragrance, Glow, it seemed like every pretty young thing followed suit. So it’s not surprising that J.Lo has more fragrances (17) than any other Hollywood star.

4. JLo Firsts: #1 Film & Album

First To Be #1 in Movies and Music

In 2001, J.Lo made history by becoming the first actress and singer to have the #1 movie (The Wedding Planner) and a #1 album (J.Lo) in the same week!

5. JLo Firsts: Q’Viva

First to Launch A Singing Competition in Latin America

It isn’t enough for Lopez to be a judge on the #1 show on television, American Idol. The superstar diva, who never stops working, is joining forces with her husband, Marc Anthony and Idol creator, Simon Fuller to launch a new show called Q’Viva: The Chosen. “This is a show for the 21st century with an unprecedented global and local story,” Lopez said of the show, which will reportedly celebrate Latin music, artistry and dance. “The Latin culture is a tapestry that is rich in passion, tradition and artistry. We are going to places where all of this talent lives and wouldn’t have otherwise been discovered. This journey for me and Marc is going be exciting and groundbreaking,” she adds. Just how big will the show be? Well, let’s just say that it will premiere in 21 Latin American countries as well as the United States.

6. JLo Firsts: Selena

The First Latina Millionaire

Jennifer Lopez became the first Latina to get paid 1 million dollars for a movie role when she starred as Selena Quintanilla in Selena (1997).

7. JLo Firsts: Remix

First Latina to Top the Charts with a Remix

When Jennifer Lopez released her second, self-titled album, J.Lo on January 23td, 2001, and saw that two of the singles off the album, (“I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny”) were huge hits, Lopez asked her label to remix both songs. Both remixes reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks. A year later, Lopez released an entire remixed album called J to tha L-O!: The Remixes that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and became the first remix album in history to debut at the top of the charts.

8. JLo Firsts: Booty

First To Make the Booty Famous

J.Lo made the booty famous — and not the other way around. And, she did it before anyone else — way before Kim Kardashian. As Lopez recently said, “There’s only one Coca-Cola, baby!”

9. Jennifer Lopez: HSN

First to Rule HSN

Jennifer Lopez appeared live on the Home Shopping Network (HSN) and in a matter of six hours, the singer/actress/entrepreneur extraordinaire sold tens of thousands of bottles of her new fragrance, Love & Light — making her the highest selling Latina celeb in HSN history!
