On Tuesday, it was announced that the Mexican actor, who is best known for his roles in television series such as Scream Queen and Pretty Little Liars, would play the Grammy award-winning singer.
The “Luis Miguel, the Series,” which follows the private life of the father-of-three better known as “El Sol de Mexico,” is being produced by Gato Grande Productions. Miguel will now join the long list of talented stars who’ve had the honor of having a biopic, including Celia Cruz with Celia and Mexican icon Juan Gabriel with Hasta Que Te Conoci.
Thanks to pop culture phenomenon, there has been a growing trend of A-list celebrities getting their own on-screen adaptation. Fans fascination with getting to know their favorite celebrities, who often keep their private life on lockdown, has contributed to the growth of this genre.
It’s unclear whether the series will dig deeper into the artist’s recent legal controversy. Back in early May, the 47-year-old was arrested after failing to appear in court for a lawsuit with former manager William Brockhaus. In July 2016, the Mexican-born star was ordered to pay Brockhaus more than a million dollars by a federal judge in New York. However, the singer recently settled the lawsuit that prompted his arrest.

While the premiere date has yet to be announced, the series will be distributed in Latin America and Spain in 2018 on Netflix.
