Hoopla Surrounds the Suns in Mexico City
By Francisco Romero. – It’s all bout excitement in Mexico City with the Phoenix Suns as they participate in the NBA Global Games. The Suns will be the home team against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday and against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.
The team arrived Tuesday night while tens of media outlets awaited for their arrival outside their hotel. Devin Booker, Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe were amongst the most sought after players for interviews along with head coach Earl Watson who is of Mexican descent. Booker is also of Mexican Descent.
“I love bringing the team down to Mexico and at the same time be able to have the opportunity to teach
young kids basketball with our clinics,” said Watson. “This is where I come from, this is the country that my grandparents left many years ago in their journey into the United States, it is very special for me to be here and at the same time it will be great to experience the passion of the Mexican fans, they really get into the games.”
The Suns practiced at Arena Ciudad de Mexico, where the games will be held, they also participated in the NBA Cares basketball clinic for kids.
One of the most popular activities for the Suns was their journey to the Teotihuacan Pyramids.
“This place is amazing,” said Allan Williams from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun. “Just imagine all the history that has come and gone through here, this is a very special place, especially watching all around from the top of this pyramid.”
The Mexican media has focused heavily on the Suns visit as the most important newspapers in the country have placed them on their cover.
