United Against Hate Coalition to Deliver 2017 People’s State of the State Address at AZ Capitol

PHOENIX – As part of major grassroots rally, representatives from dozens of progressive, community-based groups will deliver a People’s State of the State address today, on the opening day of the 53^rd session of the Arizona Legislature.

Morning Schedule:

Coalition organizations will gather for morning prep and rally, 9 a.m. (Groups will be at the Capitol from 9 a.m. until noon)
From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., coalition supporters will line up for “request to speak” opportunities and encourage legislators to sign on to the “People’s State of the State Pledge”.
Press conference to include “People’s State of the State Address”, 10:30 to 11 a.m. (Capitol Rose Garden)

In a press release, the United Against Hate Coalition shared the following statement:

“The United Against Hate Coalition will come together on the first day of the Arizona Legislature’s 53rd Session to deliver a clear and resounding message that we are committed to stand against the racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-immigrant, and anti-poor agenda currently being promoted at the national level. We pledge to protect and promote the civil and human rights of all Arizonans, and ensure that every individual is treated with dignity and respect without prejudice toward race, color, gender, identity, disability, language, creed, national origin, age, sexual orientation, economic status, and religion or lack thereof. We ask today that every member of the Legislature, Gov. Doug Ducey and all local and state officials pledge to do everything in their power to discourage prejudice and hate by others at every opportunity, personally and politically, and we invite them to join us in advocating and encouraging their colleagues here and nationwide to reject any legislative or administrative action that institutionalizes any practice of social injustice, and to accept responsibility for their leadership and its influence over national, state, and local public policy.”
