Mexican Drama Series, ‘Niño Santo,’ to Premiere January 11th on NBC Universo
MIAMI – December 16, 2016 – NBC UNIVERSO, the modern entertainment and sports cable channel for Latinos, and the fastest growing cable network, today announced the premiere of “Niño Santo” the popular Mexican original series, starring Karla Souza and Jose Maria de Tavira on Wednesday, January 11 at 10pm/9C. The 13-episode series is inspired by the real-life story and mythic fame of José Fidencio de Jesus Sintora Constatino, known as El Niño Fidencio, one of Mexico’s most recognized healers. El Niño was known for performing surgery without anesthesia and without causing his patients any pain.
“NBC UNIVERSO is a great risk-taking network that brings to the audience the best Spanish speaking entertainment available today” stated Pablo Cruz, Executive Producer. “We are honored to have our Niño Santo be a part of it.”
“Niño Santo” follows a group of young doctors sent to a remote village of Agua Azul, in the southern region of Mexico, to vaccinate the locals suffering from an unknown epidemic. Once there, they encounter resistance from the local community who is loyal to an unusual cult headed by a mysterious faith healer, “El Niño”. The curiosity of the doctors leads them to become involved with this group in the name of science. As they witness extraordinary phenomena outside reality, the “miracles,” they begin to weigh scientific impossibility against the possibility of faith.
“We are excited to present this suspense filled drama that blends science, faith and superstition with elements that will provoke viewers to discover the mystical religious story of the Mexican healer,” said Bilai Joa Silar, Senior VP of Programming and Production
The series stars Karla Souza as Lucía Suarez, José María de Tavira as Damián”, Francisco De La Reguera as Farca, Harold Torres as Mateo and Gabino Rodríguez as El Niño.
“Niño Santo” is directed by Marc Vigil and is created by Mauricio Katz, Pedro Peirano and Pablo Cruz (Fear of the Walking Dead, Cesar Chavez).
