Spacious, sparkly and fresh – with an essence all of its own – this is everything a customer wants to see and experience in a salon and spa. But I believe that what makes a business stand out is the management behind it, and the fundamental values and history of the owner(s).
April Martinez is a mother of three and a businesswoman. She has a passion for the beauty industry and this love has allowed her to be the successful entrepreneur she is. It has given her “the ability to capture dreams and ideas and work them into reality.”
Martinez underlines the fact that this path has not been an easy one. Yet, her experiences gave her the necessary skillset to start her own business, and she highlights this as an element which kept her grounded and in sync with her heart.
“I do not believe in giving up and believe that if you keep your eyes on your dream and weather storms, you can achieve anything,” says Martinez.
With a busy schedule, it can sometimes be challenging to maintain a successful work ethic. But it’s not impossible, especially with the right support system.
“I have always been a very competitive person and the drive to succeed is always lit up,” says Martinez. “I hope to one day have many employees and to impact their life in a positive way. Our industry is more female [oriented] and I have always had a desire to see my fellow woman happy, independent, and safe.”
This year is about to wrap-up and April mentions that she has accomplished her goals “for the most part.”
“I think big, so [I] keep in mind to check those goals against realistic goals,” says Martinez. “In 2017, I plan to focus on staffing and streamlining all our processes.”
The Hills Salon and Spa is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and it offers an array of services. From hair design and facials, to tanning, waxing, make-up and mani/pedi’s, you pretty much have all beauty processes in one place.
“The beauty industry is my passion and I hope to change the standards of the industry in some small way, with innovation and a culture filled with passion for the art,” says Martinez.
