David Farca: Entrepreneur, Leader and New President of Arizona United Soccer Club

Recently, a new team president was appointed to the Arizona United Soccer Club. David Farca was born and raised in Mexico City. He is an entrepreneur and community leader and has a degree in biomedical engineering, a degree in medical imaging infrastructure and an MBA. Farca is also president of the Board of Directors of the Arizona-Mexico Commission.

As I met with him to talk about his vision for AZ United S.C., he displayed the traits of a groundbreaker: patient, amiable, with a splash of wit.

So how does a Phoenix businessman end up as president of our very own, local, professional soccer franchise? “I lost the coin toss,” says David Farca, as he laughs and clarifies the ownership transition between the group of individuals who are passionate for soccer.

Soccer balls, nets and referees were not a part of his several degrees; but the vision Farca has for AZ United parallels his leadership style. “Our first goal is to be one of the best teams in the [United Soccer] league,” says Farca. “With that said, we aspire to have the highest professional team in the state of Arizona.”

Farca trusts that within 3 to 5 years, AZ United can become an MLS team. But it will take both the soccer organization and the fan base to work hand-in-hand. There are three pillars that Farca points out as the building blocks to moving on up:

1. Team Members: “Those players not only have to be great players, but they have to engage with the community. Have that personality that can interact with the fan-base.”
2. Community Involvement: “The interaction that we have with different things that happen within the community.”
3. Supporters: “Recognize who our fan base.”

Farca doesn’t brand himself a leader, but he does share a few skills he thinks are invaluable in personal growth. “The label leader is normally give to you by somebody else, so I never consider myself a leader, but when you start growing your network and when you start seeing that you are doing certain things right, one of the best things that you can do is bring people along with you,” says Farca. “Get involved with different organizations and volunteer your time; don’t just focus on the job at hand and then go home.”

Farca also comments on the fact that new things await fans and those who will join the ride. Arizona United Soccer Club hopes to capitalize on a family oriented and fun environment.

“It is something that will be turning heads,” says Farca.
