News and Notes from Rio: Usain Bolt wins Again and Colombian Mariana Pajon wins Gold

United States swimmer Michael Phelps may be the best and most accomplished athlete we have seen and might see for a long time, but the darling of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games is undoubtedly Jamaican Usain Bolt.

Bolt has been nicknamed the fastest human being ever timed.

Usain won his third gold medal in Rio on Friday by crossing the line first in the 4X100-meter relay.

In total, Usain has won 9 medals, making 3 medals in three Olympic competitions.

USA Basketball

To no one’s surprise, the United States Basketball team continues to dominate in Olympic play; the US has earned the right to go for a third straight Olympic gold after defeating Spain 82-76.

Kyle Thompson finished the game with 22 points for the U.S. while Kevin Durant added 14.

Spain’s Pau Gasol was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points.

The United States will face Serbia for the Gold. Serbia beat Australia 87-61.

The U.S. men now boast of a 137-5 all-time record in Olympic play and have won a medal in 14 of the 17 Olympic men’s basketball competitions in which they have competed.

The U.S. Olympic Men’s basketball team is 7-0 in Rio.

Colombian Mariana Pajon wins Gold

Colombian Mariana Pajon entered Friday as the favorite to win gold in BMX competition and she did not disappoint.

The 24-year-old South American made it look easy as she breezed through the course with ease and confidence as she was being chased.

“The first medal was incredible, but the second medal was more emotional,” Pajon told a crowd of reporters after the race. “Because it was in Brazil. This feels like a medal for all South Americans. I’m so proud.”
