Chid Crisis Arizona Expands its Early Head Start Program to Mesa

Mesa, AZ – Child Crisis Arizona will expand its Early Head Start program to its Mesa location located at 817 N. Country Club Drive. Thanks to funding from the Office of Head Start, the program will serve more than 100 children and create 30 new jobs, expanding the agency’s workforce to 300.

The program will include six classrooms and provide center-based service to 48 children and home-based service to 64 children and pregnant women. Construction and renovations are expected to begin in September.

“The expansion of this program is an example of why Child Crisis Arizona came together and merged a year ago so we can serve more children and families,” says Torrie A. Taj, CEO. “We are excited to expand the high quality services and care we provide to families and children to our Mesa campus.”

For more than six years, Child Crisis Arizona has operated an Early Head Start program at its Phoenix location and currently serves 84 children who reside in the Valley’s two poorest zip codes.

Early Head Start programs support the mental, social and emotional development of children from birth to age 3. In addition to education services, programs provide children and their families with health, nutrition, social, and other services. Early Head Start services are responsive to each child and family’s ethnic, cultural and linguistic heritage.

Head Start encourages the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teachers. Programs build relationships with families that support positive parent-child relationships, family well-being, and connections to peers and community.

Those who qualify for the new program include: Pregnant women and children up to 3 from low income families.
