Children’s Asthma App, ‘Asthma Care,’ Cutting Down on ER Visits
With the OFFICIAL start of summer this week, it’s important to remember your child’s allergy routine and the potential asthma triggers that surface this time of year.
Every 20 seconds someone is rushed to the ER for asthma-related emergencies – and nearly half the time it’s a child. In an attempt to lower those emergency visits to the ER, researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital created an app for children to manage their asthma, which is the first app supported by a peer-reviewed pilot study.
The app is called Asthma Care, and focuses on personalization, interaction, and an action plan. Users input their specific asthma triggers and medications, and they can set daily reminders about avoiding their triggers as well as when to take their medication. Whenever the patient experiences symptoms or needs to use their reliever medication, that gets entered into the app, which activates a personalized asthma action plan.
This useful tool will help create a worry free summer when it comes to your child’s asthma management.
The app is free and can be downloaded at: nationwidechildrens.org/
