Colombia Moves on to Semi-Finals in Copa America Centenario; waiting for Winner of Mexico – Chile Game

By Francisco Romero. – In a game where Colombia and Peru seemed to be way too technical at time finished in a 0-0 draw; Colombia eliminated Peru by virtue of winning a dramatic shootout 4-2.

The game was played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The game’s hero turned out to be Colombia’s goalkeeper David Ospina who saved a goal from Miguel Trauco’s penalty kick in the third round.

Colombia advances to a semi-final of the Copa America for the first time since 2004.

As good as the Copa America Centenario has been so far, it seems like it will get even better; Colombia will face the winner of the game between Mexico and Chile.

Mexico is playing well enough to win it all, but Chile is the defending champions and are just beginning to find their rhythm in the court.

Since 1999, Mexico has beaten Chile seven times, drawn four, and only lost twice.

“We’ve arrived in good condition, and we’re prepared, but we know that in front of us is a top-level team,” Chile head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said. “We know they have top players and are on a good run of form, and we expect an attractive game, we’ll try to impress our style of play, and ultimately beat our opponent.”

Mexico will enter the game with a home-crowd advantage as it is customary when they play anywhere in the United States.

“We have to play at our very best,” said Mexico’s head coach Juan Carlos Osorio. “We are playing against the current Champions and the fifth best national team in the world, I hope the end result favors us.”

The game will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
