A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear.” – Marilyn Monroe

Summer is right around the corner and as the seasons change, so does our style. Not only does our hair change in the summer, but so does our makeup. We must do whatever it takes to not get caught with smeared eyeliner, melted makeup or sticky lipstick.

Today, I’ve asked a few experts to share some tips to prevent any faux pas when it comes to hair and makeup — they’ve even included a few home remedies for you!

Short Bobs or Blonde

The short, shoulder-length bob is the cut of this summer. You can even add drama without sacrificing your length by adding some fringe bangs. If a drastic cut isn’t what you’re looking for, you can always choose going with a lighter color. A soft ombre or a customized balayage are great options to change up your look.

Or if you’re feeling adventurous, go for the complete blonde makeover. Professional Hair Stylist Daniel James, however, advises to do your research first. “It is very important when going on this journey that you find a stylist whose priority is the integrity of your hair as well as quality results,” he said.

Another thing to consider is the fact that if you’re changing color, you must make sure that your hair stays hydrated — especially in the Arizona heat. Here’s Daniel’s home remedy to make sure your hair stays healthy throughout the summer:

1c. of coconut oil.  Apply to slightly damp hair and scalp.  Massage thoroughly into scalp and work through until you have reached your ends. Cover hair and head with plastic cap for an hour. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and shampoo as usual. Repeat weekly to hydrate very dry hair.

No-Melt Summer Makeup

We asked makeup artist Samantha Lopez to share her best tips for keeping makeup looking fresh and even against the summer. Here are her best tips to keep you looking fresh and light wherever you go.

J-Lo Glow

To achieve this look, Samantha recommends bronzer. A good bronzer has the ability to enhance everyone’s skin tone. She recommends applying it to the high points of the face, where the light would naturally hit it. However, it’s important to note the different between a glow and shine. Make sure you carry some blotting papers to maintain the shine under control.

Primer is Prime

This helps your makeup go on smooth.  You can add your primer after your moisturizer, this will also make sure your makeup stays in place all day.

Lighten Up

Just like you would go for lighter fabrics in the summer, you can also do the same with your makeup. Switch your foundation for a tinted moisturizer instead to avoid a heavy, caked look on your face. You should also consider lightening your lip color as well. Tinted lip balms are great for everyday wear.

We asked Samantha what her best recommendation for summer is, to which she said lash extensions. “They keep you looking fresh and you won’t need to fuss over lashes coming off.”
