Say it in a Love Jar

What better way to show your love to mom, than reminding her reasons why she’s so special! An easy and inexpensive gift idea is a jar full of messages.  All you need is a mason jar, construction paper and a ribbon. To add an extra personal touch, include your favorite picture in the jar.  Some ideas on what to write include: 365 things you love about mom, your favorite memories with her or simply anything that you’d like to tell her.

Surprise Mom with a Homemade Dessert

Bring back the fun childhood memories of you and mom in the kitchen and show her how much you learned from her! Whether you choose to surprise her with La Lechera’s No-Bake Strawberry White Cheesecake or go the extra mile with a Tres Leches Coconut-Mango Trifle, mom will not be disappointed.

  • No-Bake Strawberry White Cheesecake

          Ingredients:1 ½ cups finely crushed Maria cookies, vanilla wafers or graham crackers

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 envelope unflavored gelatin

¼ cup cold water

2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, at room temperature

1 can (14 ounces) NESTLÉ LA LECHERA Sweetened Condensed Milk

3/4 cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon grated lemon peel (optional)

½ cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels

3/4 cup sliced strawberries, pureed (about ½ cup when pureed)

Sliced strawberries for garnish (optional)

          Directions: 

  • Combine cookies and butter in medium bowl; stir well. Press cookie mixture onto bottom of pan. Place in freezer while you make the filling.
  • Sprinkle gelatin over water in small saucepan; let stand for 1 minute. Stir over low heat until gelatin completely dissolves. Remove from heat and let stand for 2 minutes.
  • Beat cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk in large mixer bowl until smooth. Stir in cream until combined.
  • Melt morsels according to package directions; stir until smooth. Add gelatin mixture to morsels and stir until smooth. Add to cream cheese mixture and beat until smooth.
  • Pour into crust. With knife, swirl pureed strawberries through cheesecake mixture to create marbling. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight before serving. Top with sliced strawberries before serving, if desired.
  • Cook’s Tip: A 10-inch deep-dish pie plate can be used in place of spring form pan. Simply press cookie mixture over bottom and up sides of pie plate.

  • Tres Leches Coconut Mango TrifleIngredients: 1 box (16.25 ounces) yellow or white cake mix, prepare according to package directions using two 9-inch round cake panWooden skewer or wooden spoon1 can (14 ounces) NESTLÉ LA LECHERA Sweetened Condensed Milk

    1 cup lite coconut milk

    2/3 cup (5 fl.-oz. can) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk

    Grated peel from one lime

    1 cup heavy whipping cream or 2 cups prepared frozen, thawed lite whipped topping

    2 cups chopped fresh mangos, divided

    Toasted coconut (optional)

    Directions: 

    • Place one baked cake layer in bottom of trifle dish.
    • Pokeholes in cake with wooden skewer or round handle of wooden spoon.
    • Pour sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk and evaporated milk into 4-cup volume Pyrex measuring cup; whisk until smooth. Grate lime peel over milk mixture; stir until smooth.
    • Pour halfof the tres leches sauce over the cake.
    • Whip cream in large bowl until stiff peaks form. Spread half of whipped cream over cake.
    • Top with halfof the chopped mangos.
    • Top with second cake.
    • Poke holes in cake.
    • Pour remainingtres leches sauce over cake.
    • Spread remaining cream over cake.
    • Spoon remaining mango over cake.
    • Chill
    • Garnish with toasted coconut before serving.
