super bowl

By Taylor Pineda

Super Bowl 47 will go down in history as one of the liveliest action packed games. From power outages, superstar diva half- time performances, record return yards, a brotherly rivalry and a 17-point comeback, the 2013 game featuring the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers was full of surprises!

“Everything that could happen, did happen” seemed to be the theme of the game, starting with a huge gains from the Ravens early on. After recovering from a fake field goal attempt, Jacob Jones returned the opening kickoff return for the second half for 108 yards, tying the NFL record and boasting the Ravens to a 28-6 lead. Things weren’t looking up for the 49ers or their rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick, until fans were literally in the dark due to a power outage in the New Orleans Stadium. A 35-minute power break gave time for the 49ers to recharge and get their heads back in to the game.

It seems a bit crazy to think that a power outage would happen at such a huge event back by billions of dollars. Many people are speculating different reasons as to why this outage occurred.

beyonceSome say that it may have occurred from Beyoncé’s show-stopping, blowout halftime performance; however, these are just rumors. The diva did reunite with her former group Destiny’s Child and blow fans away with a 12- minute performance of dancing, singing, and heating up the dome! The NFL has not released the reason for the power outage; it still remains a mystery.

One thing that can be concluded in this championship game is the 49ers ability to come back after such huge setbacks. Scoring 17 points in 4 minutes led the team back in to a position to almost win the Super Bowl.

As the game progressed, so did the rivalry between brothers Jim and John Harbaugh. The conflict off the field was just as exciting as on, as the brothers were livid at times over such a close and exciting game.

Both the Ravens and 49ers played their hearts out, but at the end of the game, the Ravens were able to hold their 3-point lead and won 34-31!

jim johnJohn Harbaugh exchanged a few words with hisbrother Jim after the game and expressed that as happy as he is, he knew the loss was hard on his brother Jim. Regardless if you are a Ravens fan or 49ers fan the 2013 Super Bowl 47 was a well-played, exciting game to watch!
