Linda Valenzuela on Pushing the Limits with Her Brand, MIA Cosmetics

Those who are close to Linda Valenzuela know there is one picture she carries around everywhere she goes and shares with pride whenever she can.

It’s a picture of her standing next to the President of the United States Barack Obama, taken moments after she had done his make-up.

“I have it everywhere in my life because it shows me that everything’s possible,” she says, “it shows me that I’m not dreaming big and opens my eyes to all the possibilities.”

Born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Valenzuela knew from early on that her passion revolved around beauty. She started her career as a cosmetologist in high school, then moved to New York to attend the Parsons School of Design.

Despite the prestige of the college, Linda says life in New York was something that didn’t appeal to her. It was then she made her move to Arizona to launch her own business, MIA Cosmetics.

“I came to Arizona because I wanted to be close to family and close to friends,” she says, “and from the first moment that I stepped in Arizona, it’s just always been great to me and to my career. I’m a strong believer that you don’t have to leave your community or family to be successful – opportunities come and we find them where we are and where we want them.”

And the opportunities have been more than what Valenzuela had ever imagined. Her career has taken her to work with A-list celebrities such as Mexican actor Gabriel Soto, singer Luis Coronel and of course, President Obama.

“My goal is to give my professional tools to the everyday person, so whoever sits in my chair is going to feel like they belong on TV,” she says.
