Cardinals Make History Against Eagles; Become NFC West Champs
By Francisco Romero
Without hesitation or mercy the Arizona Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Eagles in a 40-17 blowout at Lincoln Field on Sunday.
The victory not only secured the 2015 NFC championship for the red birds, but gave the franchise a record-setting 12th (12-2) win season with still two games to go in the regular season.
The eagles record stands now at 6-8.
Cardinal’s head coach Bruce Arians is looking for more that just the division championship, “I got a closet full of them (division title hats). I want one that says a whole lot more than this one.”
Arizona’s quarterback Carson Palmer finished the game with 274 passing yards on a 20-for-32 performance.
Running back David Johnson carried the ball 29 times for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Cardinals played like a team with a mission; one that they hope takes them to the Promised Land.
“I’m proud of the way we came in and competed,” said Cardinals’ quarterback Carson Palmer.
Johnson, just as coach Arians, likes the position the Cardinals are in, but also wants more that what was accomplished, “It feels good, feels amazing…just can’t get complacent.”
The first half of the game was a close one as the Eagles tied the game at 10 in the second quarter, but Johnson scored a touchdown to go into half time with a 17-10 lead.
The second half of the game was totally dominated by the Cardinals as they outscored the Eagles 23-7.
The Eagles lost the football twice in the third quarter with fumbles and an interception by Tyrann Mathieu in the fourth.
The Eagles came into the games with two wins in a row.
“To be able to win seven road games shows a lot about the character and resolve of this team,” said Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Arizona will host the Packers and the Seahawks for their last two games of the season.
