Tigres Beat Pumas in Penalty Kicks to Win Liga MX

The Tigres of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon beat the Pumas of National Autonomous University of Mexico in penalty kicks to become the Liga MX Apertura 2015 Champions.

The Pumas fell a bit shy of accomplishing what seemed impossible as they entered the second leg of the final with a 3-0 deficit.

In the second leg of the final Pumas dominated throughout the game finishing with a 4-1 lead, but tying the aggregate score of 4-4.

For Pumas Eduardo Herrera scored at the 44th minute while, Matías Britos at the 54th, Silvio Torales at the 86th and Gerardo Alcoba at the 118th; for the Tigres André-Pierre Gignac scored the 102nd minute of play.

The goals scored during the penalty kicks were scored as follow: Gignac, Juninho, José Rivas and Israel Jiménez scored for the Tigres; Ismael Sosa and Luis Fuentes scored for Pumas.

The First half ended with the scored 1-0 in favor of Pumas.

Pumas dominated the second half of the game; they not only controlled the ball, but also dictated the tempo.

In regulation the game ended at 3-0 in favor of Pumas, with the aggregate score at 3-3.

In overtime both teams scored one goal a-piece and they had to force going into penalty kicks.

Pumas’ magic ran out as they lost the battle of the penalties to Tigres 4-2.

Ricardo “El Tuca” Ferretti is having a great year. Earlier in the year El Tuca took over the Mexican National Team on an interim basis and was able to accomplish the task he was asked to do.

Ferretti guided “El Tri” to beat the United States Men’s National Team in the CONCACAF Cup and now conquers the Liga MX Championship in the Apertura Tournament.

The Tigres have now won four Mexican League Championships.
