Isabel Allende to Bring “The Japanese Lover” to Phoenix on November 20th
Isabel Allende is one of the most beloved writers in the world, called a “unique and staggering storyteller” by The Boston Globe.
Born to Chilean-American parents, her decades-long career has been recognized throughout the world, even earning her the 2014 U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Now she’s showing off her latest book, “The Japanese Lover,” where her distinctive way of writing and expression shines like never before. Her latest book takes place over the span of seven decades — from the years leading up to World War II to present day — and shines fresh light on some of the most tragic episodes of our age, tracing the marks that those events leave on people’s lives.
She says the idea for “The Japanese Lover” came to her from a casual conversation and describes it as a story about “passionate, enduring love.”
Throughout her career, her sense of purpose and the motivation behind her work has remained the same. “I love telling stories, I want my readers to be able to connect with real people and connect with these stories,” she said.
Throughout her career, she’s been able to sell more than 65 million books, and acknowledges those who’ve remained loyal to her work throughout the years saying she couldn’t be more grateful.
“Readers give meaning to what I do, I don’t write to myself,” she said, “I write for others, and the fact that they accept my work with an open heart is just awesome.”
Now, she’s bringing her latest masterpiece to the Valley in an event co-presented by Downtown Phoenix Inc., Changing Hands Bookstores and The Office of Councilman Michael Nowakowski with support from the Arizona Latino Arts and Cultural Center (ALAC) and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AZHCC).
She’ll be discussing “The Japanese Lover” with National Book Award-nominee and Arizona Poet Laureate Alberto Rios. It’s an event you do not want to miss.
