(Phoenix, Ariz.) – Torres Multicultural Communications (TMC) President and CEO Tania Torres is being honored by the Latino Advocacy Champion Award during this year’s Valle del Sol’s Profiles of Success Hispanic Leadership Awards Friday at the Phoenix Convention Center.

“Profiles of Success” recognizes individuals for their service to community, advocacy and leadership. Support for Profiles of Success assists Valle del Sol reach thousands of individuals and families who seek assistance to meet their needs and bring about positive change in their lives.

“I want to personally thank Valle del Sol for recognizing me with the distinguished Latino Advocacy Champion Award,” said TMC President and CEO Tania Torres. “I am proud to serve as an advocate for higher education and female empowerment, while helping to remove cultural stereotypes in our community. It’s important that women, specifically Latinas support one another and work together to make our schools, our businesses and our neighborhoods better.”

This award follows after a tremendous year for Tania and her team at TMC – an agency turning the page on multicultural marketing. The firm continues to grow at a rapid pace with the relocation to a newly-renovated office space in downtown Phoenix earlier this year, in addition to launching Luna Culture Lab, an extension of TMC committed to igniting conversation, inspiring creativity and investigating culture through contemporary, original and thought-provoking research and art.

As the daughter of immigrants and the first in her family to graduate from college, Tania is no stranger to the struggles one might overcome. In 2009, during an economic recession, she left a high-level post at a local ad agency to launch her own business. Almost six years later, she has grown her business from the ground up to become one of the most respected Hispanic marketing agencies in Phoenix with a dozen employees and millions in capitalized annual billings.

A firm believer that giving back to the community is a must, Tania has been a constant advocate for Latinas. TMC’s yearly signature event Chingona Soles is one way Tania is advocating for women empowerment and celebrating them through art. Artists, local celebrities, designers, community and business leaders transform a black stiletto into a piece of art, these stilettos are then auctioned off to benefit a local non-profit organization. This year, they were auctioned off to benefit Dress for Success Phoenix, a non-profit organization that provides interview suits, confidence boosts and career development to low-income women. Additionally, the event featured a portrait exhibit of Phoenix trailblazers and their mentees, further demonstrating that Chingonas understand the value of passing on their knowledge to future generations.

Some of Tania’s work in education includes serving as President of the Board of Directors of Los Diablos, ASU’s Latino Alumni Chapter, fundraising for scholarships. She has dedicated her time, both on and off the clock, to helping young Latinos fulfill their dream of obtaining higher education. Tania’s relationship with Los Diablos spans 15 years – first as a recipient of a Los Diablos scholarship to her current role, helping build Arizona’s future leaders by actively encouraging academic success and exposing current scholars to potential career paths.

With a passion for politics and community activism, Tania’s commitment to give back does not stop with Los Diablos. She and her team at TMC played a critical role in getting out the Latino vote through their work with Mi Familia Vota, One Arizona and Somos America. In 2012, Tania’s communication strategies helped Mi Familia Vota register over 80,000 eligible Latino voters in six states and drive over 12 million Latinos to the polls nationwide. And when the U.S. Supreme Court was set to rule on SB1070 in June 2012, it was Tania’s firm that was contracted to bring together in solidarity 22 Arizona media outlets to roadblock airwaves and simultaneously air a 30-minute broadcast to ease people’s fears and uncertainty. She has become a go-to communications expert and valuable partner on these important issues.

“As an entrepreneur, having a business is more than just a service or product. It is about using our skills and resources to make a positive impact on those around you. As Latinos, we should advocate for one another and I would be humbled if people take a little bit away from my story,” said Torres. “I can only wish that I continue to have the blessing to serve as a conduit to create more and better opportunities for our community.”
