In an interview with the Daily Mail, in-house nutritionist at the health app Lifesum Frida Harju, revealed a list of 18 foods that are essential in weight loss. These are rich in fiber and proteins that can speed up your metabolism naturally — which put your body in a “fat burning state.”

1. Lean Organic Meats: Think chicken, turkey and staying away from pork. Both chicken and turkey are great sources of lean, healthy protein.

2. Coconut: This delicious, refreshing summer fruit contains several medium-chain fatty acids, which aren’t stored in the body but instead are broken down and used for energy production.

3. Fish: Not just any fish, but tuna and salmon will help increase metabolism and triggers fullness.

4. Green Tea: Green tea is your best friend! Not only does it work wonders in getting rid of toxins, but it also increases your metabolism like no other. Research has proven that dieters who drank green tea were able to lose more weight than dieters who did not.

5. Avocado: Next time you go to Chipotle and they ask you for avocado, say ‘yes please!’ But be careful, keep in mind that one avocado can contain as many as 400 calories. However, it contains monosaturated fatty acids that are more likely to be used as slow burning energy rather than being stored as fat. Experts recommend limiting yourself to 1/4 to 1/2 of an avocado per day.

6. Green Leafy Vegetables: Choose the darker greens — spinach and kale are both super rich in fiber, contain zero fat, and will help keep you fuller for longer.

7. Cinnamon: Add it to dark coffee! A spice of cinnamon will help prevent an increased storage of fat, which can help you lose weight.

8. Grapefruit: These babies are filled with vitamins and minerals. Not only that, but it’s proven that a glass of grapefruit juice a day will help your body burn fat. Tip: Girls, grapefruit also helps you prevent cramps.

9. Eggs: Again, an increase in metabolism is key. Eggs are the perfect to kick start your day as they contain almost all the vitamins and minerals we need a day, also giving you a high source of protein.

10. Chilies and Hot Peppers: The heat from chilies help limit the appetite AND boosts metabolism for up to 3 hours. Not only that, but hot peppers also help clear up sinuses from inflammation.

11. Flax seeds: Just like fish oil, flax seed contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help speed up the fat burning process, and at the same time keeps your body strong.

12. Tomatoes: These are great not only in getting rid of fat, but also reduce inflammation and water retention in the body.

14. Spices: Cayenne is an extremely hot spice, which helps reduce the risk of excess insulin lurking around and storing fat. Ginger, chili and cinnamon are all spices that will spike your metabolism.

15. Quinoa: This grain is excellent in helping you balance your blood sugar. A balanced blood sugar in result, helps you crave less sugar.

16. Bananas: Bananas help digestion, and the starch found in the fruit helps metabolize fats after a meal.
