Phoenix Mercury to Host Ovarian Cancer Awareness Game on August 23rd

(Phoenix, Ariz.) – The Phoenix Mercury will “Lace to Erase Ovarian Cancer” during its inaugural Ovarian Cancer Awareness Game on Sunday, August 23 against the Minnesota Lynx at US Airways Center. The team will wear teal shoe laces and host uplifting activities in an effort to celebrate ovarian cancer survivors and promote women’s health awareness. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Prior to the game, the Mercury will “Lace to Erase Ovarian Cancer” by selling teal shoe laces to fans who donate $10 or more, with all proceeds benefitting local non-profit, Colleen’s Dream Foundation. Fans will also receive a raffle ticket for every $10 donation and be entered to win an autographed pair of DeWanna Bonner shoes with teal laces.
The Mercury will honor ovarian cancer survivors throughout the game, including survivors ringing the X-Factor siren prior to tipoff, as well as being paired up and announced with the Mercury starting lineup during player introductions. In addition, a number of tips to prevent ovarian cancer and spread awareness will be displayed throughout the game.
Sandy Brondello, 2014 WNBA Coach of the Year, leads 2014 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Brittney Griner, All-Star Candice Dupree and three-time WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year DeWanna Bonner as the Mercury continue to defend their title on Sunday, August 23 at 3 p.m. against the Minnesota Lynx at US Airways Center.
