“East Los High” is back — and it’s here to stay.

The Hulu series recently launched its third season, in what promises to be the best one yet with more drama and juicier gossip.

Camila — played by Vannessa Vasquez — will finally confront a dark secret from her past. But in trying to keep her sister and boyfriend from harm, she risks losing her own life and her one true love.

“I can’t wait to see people’s reaction,” Vasquez said, “I’m excited, our fans are growing so much and we’re getting so much positive feedback. I can’t wait to see how far it goes, there’s definitely a lot of new things coming up this season.”

Meanwhile, the stakes are higher than ever when Ceci, played by Danielle Vega, invites boys to join in the Bomb Squad.

But not only is this season packed with excitement and drama, but the all-Latino cast show distinguishes itself from the rest by tackling much-talked about topics such as homosexuality in high school and bullying. Every episode offers a message to its viewers to reflect on, and hopes to open a discussion between parents and children on the issues that matter.

“We’re not just actors [in the series] but we’re also activists and advocates for a lot of these social issues that we’re bringing awareness to,” she said, “there’s not too many shows who are doing this and … it’s awesome, we’re bringing awareness into things and we’re changing people’s lives.”

The show is so devoted to these issues that Writer and Director Carlos Portugal engaged Advocates for Youth, Voto Latino and the California Family Health Council to make the series as realistic and as educational as possible.

Vasquez said they often receive messages from viewers, sharing how they love the fact that they can relate to the characters and see themselves going through the same problems.

As far as their reaction to how people have received the show? Let’s just say they’re on cloud nine.

“I feel like it’s about damn time!” she laughs, “I definitely feel like it’s our time. This show is showing our culture as Latin Americans, and people are loving it, embracing it, and just taking it all in so it’s amazing. I feel like we’re creating history and we’re being part of something great.”

She mentioned the fact that not only is she able to relate to her character, but she’s fallen in love with the role as well. In the future, she hopes  to grow and establish herself as an actress.

“I want to do different projects,” she said, “[I want to play] roles that definitely make a difference in the community.”
