Got Que? New Restaurant Opens in Surprise

By the name alone, you’d stop and ask yourself: “Got what?”. As Latinos, our first thought may be: “Wow, a Spanglish title… That’s creative!” But if you take a closer look, it’s actually short for barbeque! The tasty new restaurant has been open for a few weeks now and has hit “sold-out” numbers before closing on multiple occasions.
What started out as a dream 25 years ago, recently became reality for owner Eric Gerdes. A passion for barbeque led him down the path of culinary. With a simple menu, only three styles of barbeque, a few sides, and one dessert, Got Que? has drawn in many foodies and some curious neighbors.
The three types of meat are pull pork with Carolina-style sauce, Texas style brisket, and baby back ribs. As the simplicity of the main menu goes, so do the sides.
“We have coleslaw, fries, and cheesy potatoes,” said Gerdes. “The cheesy potatoes are our hot item and everyone likes them.”
Many of the dishes offered at the eatery are inspired by Gerdes’ mother’s recipes. While his recipes come from the heart, so do other aspects of the restaurant – like the chairs and tables, which he built himself.
“I have a small kitchen and I plan on keeping things simple,” he said.
The atmosphere is casual and upbeat. As time moves on, there will be more of a Western theme and the team is looking forward to being creative and fun with their new business.
When asked what the secret is to his scrumptious ribs, Gerdes didn’t spill the beans; which is probably a good thing, since it’ll keep customers interested and coming back for more. However, he did say what makes his ribs unique from other local places:
“Keep them moist when preparing,” Gerdes explained. “We do use a great rub that we sprinkle on them before being smoked.”
It may be a drive for some, but this place is well worth the extra miles. If you do plan on going, make sure to arrive well before closing or you may be out of luck. The meat is here and ready to send your taste buds on an adventure.
