Skinny jeans are facing an uncertain future.

Retail trends show there has been a steady decline in skinny-jeans popularity over the last few months. In recent news, there was an actual medical reason for it, as a woman recently went to the hospital after wearing her skinnies while helping a relative move. After cutting the jeans off, the doctors found that the denim had caused severe muscle and nerve damage! So scary.

Fashion analysts have called the death of the skinny jean before, but this time around they mean it. Cue the “comfort” trouser styles.

While skinny jeans will continue to hold reign in closets for a little while longer, you will see the style replaced with some more relaxed fits like the “boyfriend” jeans and the flared or wide-leg jeans.

This week, we have taken to fashion expert Alison Goodman of the Scottsdale Quarter Shopping Mall to give us an inside look at the trends that are taking over and are definitely here to stay. Here are the top styles that will be taking over this year:

TIP: One of the most important things to consider when buying jeans is to realize that most of the time, you won’t find the perfect pair right off the rack. A good word of advice is to make friends with a tailor. Most women find that their jeans fit perfectly on the hips, but they’re loose around the waist. That’s when a tailor comes in handy, and they can take in your jeans at the waist —  it’s a super easy fix.
