Winter Fashion 2014: Dressing for the Holidays

The holidays are in full swing now that Thanksgiving is set and done ladies. And the amount of parties, festive gatherings are mounting by the minute. Once those invites start rolling in, one of the first things we think about is what in the world am I going to wear? And I know I am not alone in this.

We start to endlessly look through our closets to see if something new magically appears in front of us, (and you know it’s true) and 100 percent of the time, it doesn’t. So now is the time to go out and start finding the perfect finds for the festivities ahead. And with that new killer outfit, you will RSVP to that holiday party faster than you think.

There are some fabulous styles out there this season for those holiday parties. Styles that are either more on the conservative side (if your at a family party) but still stylish, or something that will be a complete scene-stealer.

A trend this winter is definitely rocking the winter white. There is something very elegant and sophisticated to it that will definitely be appropriate for any gathering this season. Take it from Jessica Biel pictured below at an appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, simple and chic. You can’t go wrong. Just be prepared to be careful with spilling on it ladies!

What says the holidays better than a outfit with sequin? It’s the perfect addition of shimmer to lighten up the party. But there is definitely a way to wear sequins. It does not have to be in the form of a dress, but something a bit subtler like a skirt. Take the example from Jennifer Lopez. She pairs a draped silver sequin skirt with a solid neutral blouse on top, it stands out without being over the top. It will be your go to for any last minute party that comes up and you’ll be sure to dazzle!

Feathers are another fun style to try. Now, your probably thinking, feathers? But yes, done the right way, feathers on a skirt or dress can look very chic and festive (I actually have my eye on one now). Blake Lively pulls off the look flawlessly with this mini-dress from Marchesa. With the textured upper half and black feathers on the bottom, it is a happy medium. It is out of the box but it will definitely be an outfit that no one else will have and you’ll feel fantastic in it!

I am a huge fan of lace, and I don’t think it gets enough credit. It has definitely slowly gained popularity again, and it’s about time! When you think of a holiday party you probably don’t think of lace as a first choice, but lace can also be sexy and ready to make an entrance. Take it from Zoe Saldana below in this black Vionnet lace dress. It has the perfect amount of sheer lace on the top, with the sleeves and then the solid draped bottom half. Add the red lip for extra flare an your ready to party away!
