For most women, getting the perfect look in lashes is the key to looking awake in the morning and it is the cherry on top to the perfect makeup.

Let’s face it — mascara is the one beauty product women can’t live without. We have mascaras made for volume, plumping, or for mega-lengths. Or, there are still the girls who are fond of the extensions or “fake” eyelashes.

Since we have clearly not all been blessed with deep, dark lashes that reach our eyebrows, by now we’re used to learning how to fake it ’til we make it. Below are some tips to get the best and longest lashes possible.

1. Invest in a great mascara – Like we said before, mascara is the one product that women can’t live without. So, why not invest in one that’ll give you your best results? Of course, there’s a lot of trial and error involved in finding the right mascara, with so many options out there! One we highly recommend is L’Oreal’s Butterfly Effect Mascara, it literally helps lengthen and reach every single lash, especially near the outer corners of your eye, where it really matters.

2. Mascara primer does exist, and it works wonders – If you layer on your primer before mascara, it will not only help to condition your lashes (for healthier, longer lashes without mascara) but it will also help to create a base for the mascara for a lusher, more voluminous lash. You definitely have to try ELF’s transparent mascara primer. It is guaranteed to make your mascara stay on longer. The best part? It’s only $3!

3. Curl away! – A reason why it’s good to curl your lashes all the time is that a straight lash is more prone to clump together and shade the eyes, whereas a curled, open row of lashes will highlight your eyes. Plus, always remember to “crawl” the curler down your lashes as you curl, instead of just clamping down and holding. Tip: Warm your eyelash curler with the hot setting on your blowdryer – this works wonder to keep your lashes curled longer!

4. Wash With Care – Be careful when you’re washing off your eye makeup. We can’t say this one enough, but don’t break off your lashes while you’re washing off your eye makeup. Make sure to get an eye makeup remover that easily washes off makeup (instead of causing you to rub at your eyes, which is also bad for your skin!) so that you don’t harm your lashes in order to simply wipe away the makeup. Plus, if you go to bed with layers of mascara still on your lashes, they’ll end up breaking off over time anyway. Elemis’ White Flowers Eye & Lip Remover is a great investment to keep your lashes looking flawless.

5. Fake lashes (nope, we’re not against them!) – The thing to keep in mind for fake lashes is to use individuals rather than an entire strip at a time along with black lash glue (both of these can be cheap, drugstore finds.) Now here’s the trick: As you apply, tilt your chin down as you’re looking into the mirror, to help with your angle of the lashes. Place your lash, let your eye sit closed so the glue can dry, and open to make sure it set right. Practice makes perfect – so don’t give up at the first try!
