The results are in, the Baseball Writers Association of America have voted for Major League Baseball’s Rookies of the Year and White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is the unanimous winner in the American League.

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was voted as the National League Rookie of the Year.  deGrom received 26 of 30 first place votes.

Abreu, who defected from Cuba in 2013, mad his major league debut March 31, 2014 and finished the season with impressive numbers. 

The 27 year old, Cienfuegos native finished with 36 home runs, 107 RBIs, 176 hits, 35 doubles, and 80 runs scored.

According to Major League Baseball, it marked the second consecutive year that a Cuban-born player was honored as Rookie of the Year, and the fourth time overall. Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was the NL winner in 2013. Other Cuban-born Rookie of the Year winners: Tony Oliva and Jose Canseco.

deGrom, who was selected by the Mets in the 2010 draft out of Stetson University, made his debut in the majors in 2014. 

In 22 starts, deGrom finished the season with a record of 9-6, 2.69 ERA and 144 strikeouts.
