The Mexican National Team convincingly beat Honduras 2-0 in a friendly match played Thursday in Chiapas.
At the beginning of each half Honduras played solidly, but as the game went on el Tri was just too much to handle for the Central Americans.
The first half totally belonged to Mexico as Javier “El Chicharito” Hernandez opened up the score at the 22nd minute of the match. A second goal followed at the 37th minute of play by Oswaldo Alanis.
“I really liked the make up of our team, we played very well,” said Mexico’s Head Coach Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera. “We left some opportunities to increase the score, we could have scored more,” he added.
During the second half of the game Mexico’s level of game was not as strong as the first half. Herrera made six substitutions that included Alfonso Gonzalez, Rodolfo Pizarro, Javier Orozco, Javier Aquino and Erick Torres.
“We had to make substitutions during the second half and our youngsters kept up the pace of the game,” said Herrera.
“The last few years Honduras has not been an easy to team to face, tonight (Thursday’s game) we played very well against them, we were focused and were able to get the win,” said Mexico’s goalie Memo Ochoa.
Chicharito’s goal became his 37th as a member of el Tri; he is just 9 goals behind Mexico’s all-time top scorer Jared Borgetti, and only two goals behind super star Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
With the victory against Honduras, Mexico has now won three consecutive games since the 2014 World Cup.
Mexico’s next game will be Sunday against Panama’s National Team.
