Electricity in the air, music playing all the time, mascots on the field, fans dancing in the stands, tacos and tortas instead of hot dogs and peanuts; that is how Mike Feder, president of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta describes the popular event in its fourth year of existence.

Six teams will participate, at Kino Stadium, in the 2014 edition of the Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta; Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Tomateros de Culiacan, Yaquis de Obregon and Mayos de Navojoa will participate representing the Mexican Pacific League while the Kansas City Royals and L.A. Dodgers will send their prospects to face tough competition.

The fun-filled baseball event will take place from October 2 – 5.

“It is a must to experience the Mexican Baseball Fiesta,” said a Andrew Rise, a long time baseball fan in Tucson, “as a native Tucsonan I have followed the local minor league baseball teams that have passed through here, but having experienced the Mexican Baseball Fiesta for the first time last year was a truly unique, fun and exciting experience, there is just no-stopping.”

Being so close to the border, the Mexican Baseball Fiesta allows fans from Northern Sonora to make the trek and cheer for their favorite team.

“The Mexican Baseball Fiesta allows me to travel a short distance to watch my favorite team, the Naranjeros de Hermosillo,” said Luismbf Alberto Lopez a resident of Cananea, Sonora.

One of the main attractions during the event is the Mascots.  Hermosillo features “Beto el Coyote” that is compared to the Famous Chicken in the United States, while the Obregon team travels with “Chacho.”

Budweiser Thirsty Thursday is planned for Thursday, October 2. The Opening Ceremonies will take place between the games of the doubleheader on Friday, October 3. All of the teams will be introduced along with some special guests. Tickets can be purchased starting in mid-August Ticket prices start at just $7.00.
