For the second year in a row, the American League All-Stars beat the National League All-Stars 5-3 in the 85th edition of the Mid-Summer Classic.
The game was played at Target Field in Minneapolis, one of the newest and most modern stadiums of any kind.
Many were the storylines of the All-Star Game. First of all, since the American League won the game, they will advance to the World Series and will have home field advantage.
The Game’s Most Valuable Player was Mike Trout, who finished the game 2-3 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI.
One story line that supersedes the rest is Derek Jeter’s goodbye to the All-Star game as an active player.
Jeter finished Tuesday’s game 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
As he was replaced on the field in the fourth inning by Alexei Ramirez, of the White Sox, the 41,048 fans in attendance along with players and the media alike gave a long standing ovation to the second basemen in his last All-Star game.
“I have never taken any All‑Star Games for granted. And any player that says that they don’t want to go to an All‑Star Game is lying to you, because this is something that everyone wants to be a part of. And I have been fortunate to be a part of a few of them, and I’m happy that I had a chance to do it one last time,” said Jeter after the game.
More than anything, Jeter is one of a kind, a dying breed kind-of-player. As Captain of the Bronx Bombers, Jeter has played his entire career with one team and one team only, the New York Yankees (1995 – 2014).
The following are a few of the accomplishments achieved by Derek Jeter during his 20 seasons with the Yankees: Yankees all time career leader in hits (3,408), Yankees all time career leader in games played (2,685), Yankees all time career leader in stolen bases (348), Yankees all time career leader in at bats (10,952), (14) All Star Selections (5) Gold Glove Awards, (5) Silver Slugger Awards, All Time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop and the 28th player to reach 3,000 hits.
