The unthinkable, unimaginable and preposterous happened in the 2014 World Cup. The team from the host country and a favorite to win it all was humbled in front of million of fans around the world. Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany in the semifinals.

It became one of the most lopsided scores in World Cup History.

Playing without two of its best players (Neymar and Thiago Silva), Brazil was lost, desperate and at the end a broken team.

Germany scored, and it scored in bunches, the goals went in as followed: 11th, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 29th, 69th, and 79th minute of play.

Brazil scored its lonely goal at the 90th minute of the game.

“It’s the worst moment of my football career and the worst day of my football life. But life goes on. Who is responsible for this result? I am, it’s me. The blame for this catastrophic result can be shared between us all, but the person who decided the line-up, the tactics was I. It was my choice,” were the words of Brazil’s Head Coach Felipe Scolari.

With the win Germany advances, to its record, eighth World Cup Final on July 13 in Rio de Janeiro Maracana Stadium.

”After losing the semi-final to Italy in 2006, we know how Brazil, the players, Mr. Scolari and the fans feel, so we have to be modest and humble and take the next step. The emotions are great. We won, we’ve made it to the final,” Joachim Low, Germany’s coach said after the game.

Sixty-four years ago Brazil lost to Uruguay 2-1 in the final, a game played at Maracana Stadium. The game has been known at the “Maracanazo.” Brazil was trying to get that monkey off their back in this World Cup, but it seems like it will have to wait 64 more years.
