James Rodriguez 10By Francisco Romero

A very popular proverb that dates back to 1374 states that “All Good Things Must Come to an End,” and that is exactly what happened to the Colombian National Soccer team against the team from the host country, Brazil.

Brazil defeated the Cafeteros 2-1.

It only took seven minutes for Brazil to score, Thiago Silva’s goal gave placed Colombia in a situation it had not seen in this World Cup, as it trailed for the first time during the tournament.

Colombia had a hard time finding its rhythm during the first half.  During the second half Colombia was more aggressive, but its bets player, James Rodriguez was never left alone.  Rodriguez was defended very closely and had a hard time finding time and space for a clear shot. The 22 year old finally scored at the 80th minute, but it was already too late, Brazil’s David Luiz had scored a second goal, for his team ten minutes earlier.

Eliminated from World Cup play, players and fans alike cried as hearts were broken at Estádio Castelão, Fortaleza Brazil.

Colombia has nothing to be ashamed of.  The Cafeteros not only had a good Brazilian team to play against, but a stadium colored with Brazil’s yellow and inside the lions’ den.

By reaching the quarterfinals in the current World Cup, Colombia made history, it was the first time it has made it this far.

Colombia also showed off, perhaps the best player in the field of the 32 teams, in 22 year old James Rodriguez.  The young star finished World Cup play with 6 goals.

Brazil will face Germany in the semifinals. Germany beat France 2-1.

ARGENTINA VS NETHERLANDS

Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuain scored at the eighth minute of play against Belgium and that’s all it needed to go on to the semifinals.  Argentina controlled the ball and never gave Belgium a clear chance.

Saturday’s second match watched Costa Rica come close to making history.  Costa Rica and the Netherlands finished the game tied at zero.  The game was decided on penalty kicks.  Costa Rica missed two goals giving Netherland the opportunity to face Argentina in the semifinals.
