Confession time: Like many women, I own way too many shoes. Thirty pairs, to be exact, putting me over the average of 20, according to a recent survey of women. And that’s not counting the recent donation of about 10 pairs to charity. (OK, I may have a problem. …)

Admittedly, the worst time for my shoe shopping habit is the holiday season. Every glimmering shoe seems to beg for my attention as I walk by window displays. And if I fall for the “just one little peek!” line, I soon find myself inside the store, gawking at a gorgeous pair that has just transformed my legs and rationalizing: “It’s an investment really … think how good you feel with this shoe … and hey, at the end of the day, isn’t how we feel more important than money?”

As the “investments” started adding up again recently, I realized I had to stop buying shoes for the sake of my bank account. But what’s a shoe-a-holic to do without new shoes? Enter shoe accessories. My life changed when I discovered them. Check out my three favorites, guaranteed to feed your need for variety so you won’t have to spend money on a new pair — at least not until after the holidays.

1. Shoe Chains

Shoe chains drape your ankles with pure elegance. In this design from online store Heels Diva, round and oval links crowned with flowers of clear crystal fall in perfect tiers. Buy it once for $38, and use it to jazz up any pair.

2. Heel Covers

These ingenious inventions add instant glamour to any heel. My favorite: this soft satin set that lends your feet the elegance of a ballerina. Get it on Amazon for only $15; it works on any shoe, no matter the heel height.

3. Shoe Clips

I love the Heels Diva for the endless variety of shoe clips featuring a number of girls’ best friends, from rhinestones and beads to feathers and fur. Clip them on the front or side of a plain shoe for an instant festive touch. Prices start at just $11!
