Robert G. Bonillas, MD has created the perfect connection between family values and his profession.
Raised by Mexican parents, his father’s career as a mechanic related perfectly to his in medicine. He’s taken the lessons learned at home to a devotion to help people improve their lives.
Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Dr. Bonillas graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences. Later, he obtained his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
Currently, his patients fly in from all over the country for his services.
As a plastic surgeon, he enjoys being part of cosmetic procedures that will have a positive impact on a patient’s inner confidence.
“It’s always nice to rejuvenate an individual and make them feel better about themselves and have that positive energy,” he said.
Dr. Bonillas is also the Associate Medical Director of the Grossman Burn Center at St. Luke’s Medical Center. He takes care of children and adults who suffer burns, and who require reconstruction.
“These patients suffer devastating catastrophes and to be able to get them to function normally really motivates me. It’s really gratifying because these patients are very grateful for what I do,” he said.
Being Latino, he feels a special connection with Spanish-speakers as they can better relate to him professionally as a doctor and have a personal connection as well.
One of the strongest features of his practice is when patients go into his clinics, they will feel like they are at home to get answers to all of their questions.
“Patients are treated more like friends and family as opposed to numbers and patients,” he said.
To those unsure about what their best options are when it comes to getting a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure done, Dr. Bonillas advises to measure all of possible options and research as much as possible.
“Being educated on what your options are and what are the expectations without having to move forward or being rushed really is going to be comforting to patients,” he said.
