The head coach of the Mexican National Soccer Team, Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera has named its 23 men squad and its seven reserves for the upcoming World Cup Brazil 2014.
The seven reserves will not travel to Brazil, but should be available if an injury occurs. They will not join the squad, either, while the team trains in Mexico City.
The following are on the reserve list: Goalkeeper Moises Munoz (America), Juan Carlos Valenzuela (America), Alonso Escoboza (Santos Laguna), Miguel Ponce (Toluca), Javier Aquino (Villarreal), Miguel Herrera (Pachuca) and Aldo de Nigris (Chivas).
Meanwhile nine of the 23 players reported last Monday to its main training camp in Mexico City and went through a routine medical check up. It is expected to have full squad training by May 25.
Veteran defender, Rafael Marquez, will lead “El Tri” as the captain in his fourth consecutive World Cup. He also led his national team in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Carlos Salcido will be making his third straight trip to a World Cup with Mexico.
Mexico will face Israel, Ecuador, Bosnia and Portugal before heading to Brazil. Mexico is in group A along with Brazil, Croatia and Cameroon.
The following is the list of the 23 men squad for the Mexican National Team:
Goalkeepers: Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul), Guillermo Ochoa (Ajaccio), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca).
Defenders: Rafa Marquez (Leon), Paul Aguilar (America), Andres Guardado (Bayer Leverkusen), Miguel Layun (America), Hector Moreno (Espanyol), Diego Reyes (Porto), Francisco Rodriguez (America), Carlos Salcido (Tigres).
Midfielders: Isaac Brizuela (Toluca), Marco Fabian (Cruz Azul), Hector Herrera (Porto), Juan Carlos Medina (America), Luis Montes (Leon), Carlos Pena (Leon), Jose Juan Vazquez (Leon).
Forwards: Giovani dos Santos (Villarreal), Javier Hernandez (Manchester United), Raul Jimenez (America), Oribe Peralta (Santos Laguna), Alan Pulido (Tigres).
